I entered the Estate Agency world working in a good-sized local Estate Agency where I believed my interest in property could be used to both mine and the clients best interest. It was a great opportunity to learn and understand the impact of buying a ‘home’ rather than just a house. It truly lit a fire in me to help my customers to the best of my ability.
I developed an interest in finance during this period and decided to enter the mortgage industry and instantly realised I had picked something where I truly could make a difference to everyone I spoke to. Offering advice and support at a time when people need it the most and helping with what is their most important financial transaction, I believed that it would be extremely rewarding both emotionally and mentally
I began my training with the UK’s largest leading Estate Agency and quickly passed my exams and started advising my customers. I worked in the Swansea area in many of their offices and quickly built a reputation for going that extra yard for their customers, where many were buying their first house. I enjoyed the role immensely but wanted to give a more personalised service and have clients rather than customers and being Estate Agency based meant I was there really to facilitate the house sales rather than being an independent mortgage broker working solely on behalf of my mortgage client.
I had become the top adviser within the area group but realised numbers were not as important to me as service and took the leap and looked for a new challenge and returned to my original local estate agency after being invited to re-join them.
I returned to where it had all started, not as an Estate Agent but now as a Whole of Market Self Employed Mortgage & Protection Adviser. This really opened my eyes as to just how much I could help my clients as I was no longer restricted by spreadsheets and numbers.
Sturgess Mortgage Solutions was born and is a company I am proud to be the founder and driving force of. We are building an expert team filled with wonderful people who I am proud to have representing the brand. I am able to utilise my previous training, learning and experience as examples & warnings in equal measure to give a better client journey by ‘Putting the Client First’ at the heart of everything we do.
